The next installment of the annual Biotope Aquarium Contest (BAC) is getting underway! If you’re unfamiliar with this contest, which combines the world of aquascaping with the recreation of authentic representations of natural biological communities, you can see last year’s highligts here! Each year, the AMAZONAS team is delighted to share the top entries in the pages of AMAZONAS Magazine! Will your aquarium be immortalized in print?
The organization of entries has been updated for the 2025 competition, involving 8 biogeographic regions. The BAC organizers state that “categories of the BIOTOPE AQUARIUM Contest have been determined following the definition of the geographical regions by the United Nations, and adjusted by BAP Experts in accordance with main drainage basins.” The resulting categories include: North America; Central America & Caribbean; South America; Europe; Africa, Central, Western & Southern Asia; Eastern Asia; Southeastern Asia & Oceana.
This online contest is free for participants, with freshwater and brackish aquariums welcomed (There is an idea to have a Marine Aquarium Biotope Contest at some point in the future, which the CORAL Magazine staff is eager to support)! The 2025 BAC Schedule is very important for aspiring contestants.

- June 20, 2025 – Submissions closed
- July 20 – August 20, 2025 – Evaluation process
- September 20, 2025 – Publication of results
- October 20, 2025 – Prize-giving
