A vividly-colored male Haplochromis sp. "Flameback", courting the dull female behind him, is an example of a highly-aggressive East African cichlid, this species endemic to Lake Victoria. While rivaling many saltwater fishes in the looks department, managing the aggression of species like this can be a challenge, so it may be wise to wait until the basics of aquarium maintenance and husbandry are well-understood before attempting a fish like this.
