Do you have an exotic pet that you are no longer able to care for? If so, bring your pet to one of several Habitattitude Exotic Pet Surrender Events scheduled around the state of Wisconsin this fall. Area organizations will be accepting fish, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and aquarium plants—no questions asked.
In some areas, there are no rehoming options for exotic animals such as fish, birds, and reptiles. Some pet owners that are unable to care for their pet may think that releasing the animal is the right thing to do, however, releasing a pet is harmful for the animal and the environment.
The Habitattitude Rehoming Network is a collection of area rehoming partners that provide responsible alternatives to release for exotic pet owners who are no longer able to care for their pets. J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) is hosting several events with help from several other area organizations including the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes.
Events this fall include:
- August 23rd between 12 PM and 3 PM at the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites, 5110 Main St, Stevens Point, WI 54481.
- September 12th between 12 PM and 3 PM at the Heckrodt Wetlands Reserve located at 1305 Plank Rd, Menasha, WI 54952.
- October 16th between 3 PM and 7 PM at the Radisson Hotel Madison, 517 Grand Canyon Drive, Madison, WI 53719.
- November 7th between 12 PM and 3 PM at the Havenwoods State Forest Environmental Awareness Center, 6141 N. Hopkins St. Milwaukee, WI 53209

Editor’s Note – J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue initially started as the surrender network hosted by the Green Bay Aquarium Society (GBAS) and grew to the point necessitating the creation of a new organization in 2020. JRAAR also now has dedicated facilities for aquatic animals and related surrenders pets.
Founder John Moyles is always willing to help organizations around the country start their own surrender events and programs; if you would like information on holding a surrender event in your area, please contact John Moyles at email@example.com
